Hi! I’m Dr. Sophia Kahill. Life these days is stressful, and many people are having trouble coping. Yet you may hesitate to burden your family and friends with your concerns. It can help to have an objective, non-judgmental professional to help sort things out for yourself and learn new ways of dealing with challenges.
In the more than 20 years since I got my doctorate, I have seen hundreds of clients change themselves and their lives in positive ways. Some clients need to heal from major traumas or losses, or to alter a condition that is significantly detrimental to them; others simply want to improve the quality of their lives. To help a range of individuals, I offer a variety of approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, supportive, experiential (including Traumatic Incident Reduction) and insigareaht-oriented therapy. Clients are carefully interviewed before starting therapy to determine the approach that is most suited to their needs and goals. We then work together to bring about change.
Areas dealt with include stress, anxiety and panic, worry, depression, negative thinking, low self-esteem, lack of assertiveness, life changes, grief and loss, trauma, and issues from the past.
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, and my graduate degrees from York University; I am registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario as well as with the Canadian Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. Before opening my private practise in 1992, I was employed at The Clarke Institute of Psychiatry (now The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health or CAMH) in Toronto, and at The Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga.
My office is in Etobicoke, a short walk from the Royal York subway stop, and is easily accessible from Mississauga and from downtown Toronto. Evening hours are available. Psychologists’ services are not covered by OHIP, but private health insurance plans may reimburse clients for part of the fees. Give me a call any time for more information!
