Hi, I’m Dr. Andrew Guthrie. I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist who conducts long term and short term psychoanalytic therapy, psychoanalysis and psychodynamic assessments with children, adolescents, adults and families.
I was educated at Concordia and McGill Universities, and the University of Toronto in psychology, social work, and holism and aesthetics. I completed a four year program at the Toronto Child Psychoanalytic Program and I am a candidate in the Toronto Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis. My scholarly and creative work includes a play, two works of fiction, two dissertations and several papers on my work in psychoanalytic therapy.
From 2004-2008 I was employed at the Willow Centre as a psychotherapist of children and adults, and in 2008 I opened a private practice in Toronto. I am located at Avenue Rd. and Bloor St. W., approximately a five minute walk from St. George subway station and a ten minute car ride from the Don Valley Parkway. Since 2005 I have been employed by the Durham Children’s Aid Society as a psychotherapist of children, adolescents and families.
Each assessment and treatment I conduct is custom-made to fit each particular family and individual I see, which means that there is more flexibility than rigidity in my approach to this work and the patients I see.
In order to get started, I encourage you to call me with any questions you might have about my work or what you can expect if we were to schedule a meeting. You can also have a look at my website therapyintoronto.com to find out more about me and my approach.
Thank you and I look forward to speaking with you soon.
